Heart

Monotype inspired silkscreen prints

Part of an edition of 23 with the theme, "hidden things", Heart is inspired by a poem by Fiphie called "Kite Strings". Heart addresses thoughts of what I might personally hide from others- those secrets that I keep from even the closest people in my life out of fear of becoming vulnerable. The human heart comes to symbolize a part of ourselves that is sensitive, complex, and easily damaged or broken, yet core to our being human.

Fiphie's poem, "Kite Strings", reads in gold across the background, difficult to see, but shines through upon catching the light. It addresses a lost relationship, a finding of self, and a new becoming- a process that is often not revealed to others. The act of having to get closer to the piece and manipulating the view in order to read the poem mimics the actions it takes for one to grow close to another and truly enter  their heart- to work together and expose secrets, appreciating the beauty of being vulnerable.
